Premier League Wrap - Gameweek 4

Gameweek 4 continued a trend of major upsets.  Nottingham Forest grabbed a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge while Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus secured three points against Manchester United at the Emirates.

Luton kicked off the gameweek for the second weekend in a row, this time hosting a flying West Ham United.  West Ham went ahead thanks to Jarrod Bowen in the first half.  Kurt Zouma doubled the lead in the 85th minute before Luton scored their first goal of the season in extra time.  West Ham won 2-1.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all predicted the correct result.  Oliver and Dylan both got the correct score-line of 2-1.

Sheffield United hosted Everton where both sides were looking to get their first points of the season.  Everton went ahead after Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the Toffees first goal of the season in the 14th minute.  This lead did not last and Sheffield managed to go ahead 2-1 at the stroke of halftime.  10 minutes into the second half Everton equalized, with new signing Arnaut Danjuma getting his first goal of the season.  The points were shared.  2-2 was the final score.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all backed Sheffield to get the win.  Jordan Pickford’s late heroics was the difference.

Manchester City hosted Fulham at the Etihad.  The first half was close.  Julian Alvarez put City ahead before Tim Ream equalized less than two minutes later.  Nathan  Ake scored a controversial header to make it 2-1 before halftime.  An Erling Haaland three-piece finished off the Cottagers.  Manchester City continued their 100% start to the season.  City won 5-1.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all saw a Manchester City victory coming.  The MoneyMan’s 4-0 prediction was the closest to the score-line.

Nottingham Forest travelled to London where they took on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.   Chelsea had chances to go ahead with Nicolas Jackson sending his best opportunity of the match over the crossbar.  New signing Anthony Elanga made an instant impact after coming on off the bench.  Elanga scored in the 48th minute.  Forest won 1-0.

Oliver and Dylan were shocked by Forest’s win after predicting the home-side would take three points.  The MoneyMan gave Nottingham Forest more credit but was still incorrect with his 1-1 prediction.

Burnley faced Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspurs with hosts looking to get their first points of the season.  Burnley went ahead early thanks to South African striker Lyle Foster.  It didn’t take long for Spurs to equalize and take the lead.  Goals from Christian Romero, James Maddison and a Heung-min Son hatrick sealed the win.  Spurs won 5-2.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all called a Spurs victory.

Brentford hosted Bournemouth, with both sides looking difficult to beat going into the weekend.  Brentford went a goal ahead early thanks to Mattias Jensen.  On the half an hour mark former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke equalized.  Bournemouth took the lead in the 77th minute before Bryan Mbeumo came to the rescue in added time secure a point for the hosts.  Final score was 2-2.

The MoneyMan, Oliver  and Dylan all backed a Brentford win.  Bournemouth continue to surprise with their performances.

Both Brighton and Newcastle were recovering from a shock defeat in the previous round.  Newcastle had already lost two games a row and could not allow the gap to widen further.  Brighton dominated the game. An Evan Ferguson hatrick put the Seagulls three goals ahead.  A Callum Wilson consolation was not enough.  Brighton won 3-1.

No one called Brighton’s win this weekend.  The MoneyMan and Dylan predicted a draw while Oliver predicted a Newcastle win.

Crystal Palace have been one of the most difficult teams to play against this season.  Wolves kept themselves in the game but could not stop the Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze rampage.  Hwang-Hee Chan and Matheus Cunha scored for Wolves but it was not enough.  Palace won 3-2.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all correctly backed Palace.  Wolves do not look very good this season and may be in serious trouble.

Liverpool looked to continue their positive start to the campaign when they hosted Aston Villa.  An overall dominant performance from the Reds saw them cruise to victory.  Dominik Szoboszlai scored the first, a Matty Cash own-goal was the second before Mohamed Salah sealed victory with their third goal of the day.  Liverpool won 3-0.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan once again all called the correct result.  No one managed to get the clean sheet but even Jurgen Klopp was surprised his side managed to keep out Villa.

A classic Premier League rivalry kicked off at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon with both teams looking to find their best form.  Arsenal were in control for most of the game but United were dangerous on the counter attack.  Martin Odegaard opened the scoring before Marcus Rashford got the leveller.  The second half was more of the same with both teams struggling to make the breakthrough.  Record-signing Declan Rice got the job done with a 93rd minute goal to make it 2-1.  Gabriel Jesus came off the bench to seal United’s fate, sending Diogo Dalot to the ground to make it 3-1.  Arsenal won 3-1.

The MoneyMan correctly predicted an Arsenal win.  Oliver and Dylan predicted a draw but did admit a result for Arsenal was very likely.

The MoneyMan and Dylan now sit on 22 correct results while Oliver maintains his slender lead on 23.
