Premier League Wrap - Gameweek 3

Gameweek 3 was another Premier League classic.  West Ham stunned a formidable Brighton away from home while 10-man Liverpool silenced St James Park with a smash and grab win over Newcastle United.

Chelsea and Luton kicked off the weekend on friday evening with both sides looking for their first victory of the campaign.  Chelsea were dominant, with Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson getting on the scoresheet.  Chelsea won 3-0.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all correctly predicted a Chelsea win but were each one goal off the final score.

Bournemouth Hosted Tottenham who look to be on the up.  James Maddison got his first goal for Spurs in the first half before Dejan Kulusevski scored their second just after the hour mark.  Spurs won 2-0.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all correctly predicted Tottenham’s victory, with The MoneyMan getting the correct scoreline.

Brentford hosted Crystal Palace with forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa in fine form.  The Bees took the lead early and looked to be walking away with three points but Palace defender Joachim Anderson equalized late in the second half.  The final score was 1-1.

Oliver and Dylan incorrectly backed a Brentford win while The MoneyMan once again predicted a correct result and scoreline.

Arsenal looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season when the hosted London rivals Fulham.  It proved to be a challenging fixture for the Gunners.  Fulham went a goal ahead in the first minute.  Arsenal came back to take the lead 2-1 thanks to a Bukayo Saka penalty and Eddie Nketiah goal two minutes later.  Joao Palhinha scored an 87th minute equalizer to share the points.  The final score was 2-2.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan did not give the Cottagers a chance.  They all predicted a comfortable arsenal win.

Manchester United needed to bounce back at Old Trafford after an underwhelming performance against Spurs.  Forest went 2-0 up inside the first five minutes, United could not cope.  Eriksen pulled one back in the first half before Casemiro equalized in the 52nd minute.  Forest were reduced to 10 men after Joe Worral’s straight red.  Bruno secured the win after converting a 76th minute penalty.  United won 3-2.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all correctly predicted a Red Devil win but did not anticipate such a high scoring game.

Arguably two of the biggest candidates for relegation this season faced off at Goodison Park.  Everton are yet to score a goal this campaign while Wolves have managed to score just one.  This game played out how you would expect.  Nothing of significance for large portions of the game until Wolves found the winner with just three minutes left to play.  Wolves won 1-0.

The MoneyMan got his third correct result and scoreline prediction of the gameweek while Oliver and Dylan incorrectly predicted a draw.

Brighton went into gameweek 3 sitting at the top of the table and would host West Ham United.  Brighton could not break down The Hammers in what was a David Moyes masterclass.  The Seagulls had 78 percent possession and 25 shots at West Ham’s Alphonse Areola and managed just one one goal in the 90 minutes.  West Ham were up by three goals until the 81st minute.  West Ham won 3-1.

In fairness to The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan, few could have seen this result coming.  They all incorrectly predicted a dominant Brighton victory.

Burnley needed to get their first points on the board when they faced Aston Villa.  Villa had bounced back against Everton while Burnley’s fixture against Luton was postponed.   Villa went 2 goals up inside the first 20 minutes before South African Lyle Foster scored Burnley’s first goal of the season in the 47th minute.  Moussa Diaby finished the game off just after the hour mark.  Aston Villa won 3-1.

Oliver correctly predicted an Aston Villa win while The MoneyMan and Dylan incorrectly predicted a Burnley victory and a draw.

Manchester City are the only team to have three wins from three after their match against Sheffield.  City struggled to put Sheffield away despite having 30 shots at goal.  Erling Haaland got his third of the season in the 63rd minute to put City in the lead.  Sheffield equalized in the 85th minute thanks to Jayden Boggle.  Pep’s side were sweating.  Rodri came to the rescue once again, scoring the winner with just two minutes left to play.  City won 2-1.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all predicted a City win.  Sheffield deserve more credit than they were given and could’ve stolen a point.

The final fixture of the weekend is a game of the season contender.  Newcastle United hosted Liverpool at St James’s Park.  Liverpool had a nightmare start to the game after a Trent Alexander-Arnold error was finished by Anthony Gordon to put the Magpies 1-0 up.  Just three minutes later Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk was given a straight red.  The Reds limped into the second half with 10-men, hoping to avoid embarrassment.  Jurgen Klopp’s side dug deep and were still in the game with 10 minutes to play.  Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score two late goals and secure a miraculous comeback victory.  Liverpool won 2-1.

The MoneMan, Oliver and Dylan all predicted and Newcastle win.  They were a Darwin Nunez masterclass away from a correct result.

The MoneyMan and Oliver managed five correct results out of ten this round while Dylan got just four.  The totals for the season so far have Oliver in the lead with 18 out of 29, then Dylan in second with 17 out of 29 and in third the MoneyMan with 16 out of 29.
